Primary education is a key stage in students’ holistic development, where they consolidate academic, social, and emotional skills that will serve them throughout their lives. At SEK International School Guatemala, within an environment of educational excellence, we support each student so they experience their learning with joy, autonomy, and responsibility.
We foster the development of oral and written expression, as well as critical and creative thinking, promoting an education based on reflection, inquiry, and active participation.
As an authorized International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme (PYP) school, at SEK International School Guatemala we design learning environments where students are the protagonists of their education, actively participating in their learning process and making decisions that strengthen their autonomy and critical thinking.
As the first school in Guatemala to implement this program, we promote an innovative education aligned with international standards of excellence.
Our approach integrates active methodologies, pedagogical innovation, and the use of technological tools such as iPads, connecting learning with real-world applications and developing key 21st-century skills. Furthermore, our students are introduced to areas such as robotics, programming, and the use of tools like LEGO®, fostering logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
Bilingualism remains a fundamental pillar: a significant portion of the curriculum is taught in English, integrating the language naturally and consolidating students’ multilingual competence.
This preparation allows students to complete the Primary Years Programme (PYP) by the end of 6th grade with a solid academic foundation, confidence in their learning, and an international mindset that prepares them to successfully navigate the next stages of their education.
